2004 AUDM Liberty GT BIU Connection

Just wanted to raise a positive BIU feature use for FastECU

I'm having issues with a 2004 AUDM Liberty GT. Liberty is the same as Legacy in other markets, but in 2004 the AUDM and EDM had CAN for module comms.

ER HC is persistent on the combination meter. Factory Service Manual is pointing at "Replace ECM" for all of my issues, but I wasn't sure if I had fixed the problem and the BIU was just retaining the DTC and displaying errors.

I could not get connection using Openport 2.0 J2534, nor ELM327. I purchased a generic VAG 409 KKL cable from Aliexpress. On connection to car and PC the BIU feature connected immediately and provided stored BIU DTC which I was able to clear effectively.

I still get a B0221 DTC which is the BIU reporting that the ECM is not transmitting on the CAN, and I am suspecting the bus transceiver on the ECM has failed. About to start bench probing to see if I can scope that.

But yeah, FastECU BIU function works fine on a 2004 CAN enabled AUDM Liberty/Legacy model.

The other cables might have worked if the BIU part of FastECU was integrated with the rest of FastECU. But that’s on the todo list…
